WORK HARD. STAY HUMBLE.

WORK HARD. STAY HUMBLE.

WORK HARD.  STAY HUMBLE.

This phrase means so much to me.  It’s a reminder of how I was raised and also describes the type of person I strive to be.  In this blog I will describe the importance of both, and also how it can play a vital role in our success.

WORK HARD.

There is no substitute for hard work.  In the fitness industry someone can use all the supplementation and steroids they want, but without the hours in the gym and preparing meals there will be no significant change.  This method can be emulated across all aspects of life when it comes to achieving true individual success.  I think the main issue a lot of individuals have, especially my generation(sorry fam) is that there is this false sense of entitlement.  Like “ya by the time I’m 30 I’ll be a millionaire I’m not too worried about it.” Like WHAT!?!  We are each in control of our future.  This world owes us NOTHING.  Another problem I have with my generation is people thinking college is somehow a time to only do college.  We all want this “college experience” and to “enjoy the best years of our life.” Pardon my language but are you F@#*ING KIDDING ME?! If our college years are the best of our lives we have done something seriously wrong, or we have no motivation at all.  Success doesn’t care what age we are, it doesn’t care that we are taking 15 hours of classes while working part time, it doesn’t care that there’s a bomb ass frat party every weekend that we just can’t miss because everyone will be there.

Brutal truth, the path to success is not a flippin escalator.  It takes hours of hard work no matter what it may be.  There should not be an excuse as to why we aren’t avidly putting in the work to pursue our goals and dreams.

STAY HUMBLE.

This one is important.  We live in a world where over-confidence and focus on ones self is celebrated.  We are increasingly competitive, narcissistic, and obsessed with appearance and entitlement.  I get it, I myself have fallen victim to this time and time again.  Now with this I am NOT saying we should not be confident as individuals.  Those that have high self- efficacy and self- confidence are different from the over confident.  There is a difference in believing in ourselves vs. attracting as much attention to ourselves in an incredibly obnoxious way.  So you may be thinking, why should we practice staying humble? How will it help us? You know what that means… TIME TO MAKE A LIST!

1.     Humble people typically make better leaders- Humble leaders are typically more well liked and also more effective.  Humble leader’s usually thrive in admitting when they make a mistake, spotlighting fellow employees strengths, and modeling teachability.

2.    Humble people have higher self control- Higher self control is certainly a key to a more successful life.  Humble individuals typically place less importance on themselves, which leads to higher self control being exhibited in many situations.  This is possibly due to the fact that humble individuals tend to recognize their limitations.

3.     Humble people are more helpful- Humble people are, on average, more helpful than people who are conceited or egotistical.  In a study by LaBouff et al. (2011), participants who were more humble, were more likely to offer help, and offered more of their time, to those in need.  Unsurprisingly, humble people have also been found to be more generous.

These are just 3 examples of how living a more humble life can effect us in a positive way.  No matter the success we achieve, we should always remain humble and realize that through this will achieve even more success and be more likeable to those we work with and those we come across in our day to day lives.  Like I’ve said time and time again.  I do not believe that we were put on this planet to live an average life.  We were made to achieve greatness. So WORK HARD.  STAY HUMBLE. And achieve the greatness and success we were each made to do.
